Introduction to Fantasia International Film Festival

The 29th Fantasia International Film Festival is set to take place in Montreal from July 16 to August 3. The festival has announced a third wave of films, including a special screening of Paramount’s Smurf. The program includes a variety of world premieres, North American premieres, and award ceremonies.

World Premieres and Special Screenings

The world premieres include Lee Chang-Hee and Yusron Fuad’s class war thriller "The Judgment", science fiction author Ian Tuason’s "The Undertone", and Hadrah Daeng Ratu’s Indonesian horror "The Book Sijjin and Illiyyin". Additionally, Michel Gondry’s "Maya, Give Me a Title" will receive its North American premiere. Other world premieres include the Troma documentary "Occupy Cannes" by Lily-Hayes, Dickson Leung Kwok-Fai’s Hong Kong esports thriller "Good Game", Francis Bordat’s "Anna Left", and the slacker comedy "Messy Legends" by Kelly-Kay Hurcomb and James Watts.

Award Ceremonies

The festival will also host several award ceremonies. The founder of Troma, Lloyd Kaufman, will be awarded the festival’s first Indie Maverick Prize. Genndy Tartakovsky and composer Danny Elfman will receive the Cheval Noir Lifetime Achievement Award. The Canadian Trailblazer Award will be awarded to Sheila McCarthy, and the annual Denis Héroux Prize will be awarded to Quebecois producer Anne-Marie Gélinas.

As previously announced, Ari Aster’s "Eddington" will open the festival. The festival will close with Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animation "Resolved". With a diverse range of films and award ceremonies, the 29th Fantasia International Film Festival is set to be an exciting event for film enthusiasts.
