The latest box office numbers are in, and it’s been an exciting weekend for movie fans in the UK.

Top 5 Films

The top 5 films of the weekend are:

  1. F1 (US) – Warner Bros, with a weekend total of £4.9m and a total of £7.1m
  2. 28 Years Later (US/UK) – Sony, with a weekend total of £2.4m and a total of £9.7m
  3. How to Train Your Kite (US) – Universal, with a weekend total of £2m and a total of £15.9m
  4. Elio (US) – Disney, with a weekend total of £766,000 and a total of £2.1m
  5. Lilo & Stitch (US) – Disney, with a weekend total of £539,000 and a total of £35.1m

Film Analysis

Warner Bros’ F1 has taken the top spot, with an impressive £4.9m from 710 locations, giving it an average of £6,901 per location. Including preview screenings, the total amount in the UK is £7.1m. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, stars Brad Pitt as a reluctant mentor to a rookie player, played by Damson Idris.

Other Notable Films

28 Years Later, directed by Danny Boyle, has dropped to second place, with £2.4m from the weekend and a total of £9.7m. How to Train Your Kite, a live-action film from Universal, took in just under £2m, bringing its total to £15.9m. Disney’s original animation Elio added £766,000 to its total, which now stands at £2.1m.

Healthy Holdovers

Some films have continued to perform well, even in their later weeks. M3gan 2.0, a horror film from Universal, opened with a respectable £508,947 from 539 locations. Mission: Impossible – The Last Billing added £325,000 to its total, which now stands at £25.5m. The Salt Path took in £141,277, bringing its total to £7.4m.

New Releases

Several new films have been released, including Maa, an Indian horror film, which opened with £31,822 from 106 cinemas. The Phoenician Program, a comedy from Wes Anderson, took in £27,050, bringing its total to £3.1m. Ran, a 40th-anniversary release of Akira Kurosawa’s film, opened with an average of £435 from 5 locations.

Independent Films

Some independent films have also been released, including From Hilde with Love, a German biopic, which opened with £14,000 from 34 locations. Sudan, Remember Us, a documentary, took in £3,014 from 5 cinemas. Chicken City, a film about two school friends who get involved with a local criminal family, opened with an average of £118 from 20 screens.
