The Doors to Downton Close for the Last Time
The doors to Downton open one last time – and this time it is for a farewell. The newly released trailer invites us to a last emotional visit to the Grand Halls of the Crawley Estate. After more than a decade of drama, funny remarks, romantic complications, and historical milestones, everything depends on it: one last meeting, one last arc.
A New Era for Downton Abbey
In a new decade, the trailer wasted no time to transport spectators to a world of opulence, music, and memory. There is a feeling that we no longer see just a period drama – we see a number of history that has been promoted by the legacy of a show since 2010. And of course, the halls of Downton have not changed a little. The spirit of Maggie Smith’s Inimitable Violet Crawley, whose legacy in the salon was like perfume in the salt area, follows the halls when we travel to a new era.
Scandal and Goodbyes
But the trailer is also colored with scandal. Lady Mary’s dangerous marriage leads to headlines in the newspapers, the arrival of Harold Levinson has a threat to the existence of Downton, and from things that we can actually say goodbye to Downton Abbey. Not only the show, not only the people, but also the bricks and the mortar themselves.
The Grand Finale Cast
The grand finale brings back almost everyone who ever entered the Downton estate – and some others. The detailed return includes Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Paul Copley, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, and Michael Fox. Also returning is Paul Giamatti as Harold Levinson, who was recently seen charming and confusing. But just when Downton closes its doors, it opens briefly for some fresh faces. Newcomers Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan are set to join the lineup.
A Real Tribute to Maggie Smith
"The Grand Finale" will be a "real homage" to Maggie Smith. In a recent conversation, Michelle Dockery spoke movingly about what the grand finale means for the occupation – and as the indelible brand of Maggie Smith honors. "It is a beautiful film. For us, it was such a pleasure to be able to come back together. It is a real tribute to Maggie Smith, the film." Dockery reflected on these last scenes after so many years of playing Lady Mary, adding: "We had so many last times for us. But this time we really enjoyed every minute. It was the last one, it really felt really, really special. As everything ends, it is emotional, but it is a happy place. It was always a very happy place to be and be a wonderful thing in the past 15 years."
The Final Chapter
The last chapter of Downton Abbey opens in cinemas on September 12th. Get ready to say goodbye to the beloved characters and the iconic estate, but not before one last emotional visit to the Grand Halls of the Crawley Estate.
