Introduction to a New Film
France’s Loco films have taken on international sales for Portuguese filmmaker João Rosas’ new movie, The Shining Life, before its international premiere in the competition at Karlovy Vary Film Festival in July.
The Storyline
The story of The Shining Life is set in Lisbon and follows a 24-year-old who is drifting between his dreams of becoming a musician and overcoming his ex-girlfriend. He takes on a job in a stationery store while he learns to hug adulthood and bring his life back on track.
The Filmmaker’s Background
This film is the continuation of a series of stories that Rosas has produced through his award-winning short film trilogy, Entrepreneurship, Maria do Mar, and Chip – all featuring the same characters in different phases of childhood and youth. The Shining Life is his debut feature film.
Production Team
The producers of the film are Portugal’s Midas films and France’s Afternoon films. Laurent Danielou from Loco films praises the film, saying it is "a fresh and convincing portrait of farewell to youth" and quotes Rosas’ "deep human storytelling".
What to Expect
Danielou adds that they were equally impressed by how Rosas captures the city of Lisbon and makes it a central character in the film. With its unique storyline and talented filmmaker, The Shining Life is definitely a movie to look out for.
