A Blast from the Past: 1970s Hull Exhibition
The Streetlife Museum in Hull is calling on residents to share their photographic memories of the 1970s. The team is looking for photos that showcase life in Hull during this time, including fashion, music, and everyday moments.
What to Expect from the Exhibition
The exhibition, titled "Glam and Down: 1970s," opened on July 10th and will run until August 31. According to the Hull Museum, the exhibition will explore the "highs and lows of life" in 1970s Hull. The team wants to share not only national stories from the decade but also personal memories of special occasions, daily life, and everyday moments in Hull.
Sharing Your Memories
Sarah Howard, program manager of the Hull Museums, is excited to see public contributions to the exhibition. "As a child of the 1970s, I am excited that the public contributions are coming in," she said. The great thing about showing them digitally is that we can include so many! The museum is particularly interested in family photos from holidays, special occasions, and everyday life in Hull. Don’t worry about embarrassing fashion choices – the museum promises not to laugh at the flares.
How to Submit Your Photos
If you have photos from the 1970s that you’d like to share, you can submit them via the Hull Museums’ Facebook page or by emailing museum@hcandl.co.uk. The museum is looking for digital copies of your photos, which will be included in a digital projection as part of the exhibition.
Get Involved
The exhibition is a great opportunity for residents to share their memories and experiences of life in 1970s Hull. Whether you have photos of family holidays, nights out at the local disco, or everyday moments from your childhood, the museum wants to see them. So dig out those old photo albums and get sharing! You can also listen to highlights from Hull and East Yorkshire on BBC Sounds or watch the latest episode of Look North. If you have a story you think the BBC should be covering, you can tell them about it here.
