Introduction to AESPA
AESPA is all about reinvention. The four-member group of girls, which comes from the Korean label SM Entertainment, has been ahead of the curve since their debut in 2020. The group made their debut with the revolutionary concept of the time that was bound to the meta-verse, where each member had a corresponding avatar. But now that Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning have approached five years as a group, they seem to have the feeling that they have found the AESPA that they have always wanted to be.
Evolution of AESPA
"I think what people are thinking about AESPA, maybe since 2024, I think there was the picture that we thought from the beginning, showed the people who see us," says Giselle to The Hollywood Reporter On a zoom from the SM SM. The success of their 2024 hits "Supernova" and "Whiplash", Aespa’s latest single "Dirty Work (feat. Flo milli)" is prepared to become the latest hit in the group. "Dirty Work", which was raised over 1 million pre-orders before its debut on Friday, keeps the sound and the soul of AESPA alive, but with an additional groove that the group has not yet fully explored.
The Making of "Dirty Work"
Below the singers speak about "Next Level" via "Dirty Work", their collaboration with Flo Milli and how they developed into the group when they always saw themselves. "Let’s start with ‘Dirty Work’. Can you tell me about the publication?" Giselle replies, "It will be a single, so we have the Korean version, the English version, and then we have a version with Flo Milli, which we are very happy about. This is one of these songs in which we all heard the demo from the start, and we were all just like ‘Wow’. It is a song that we all like very, very much, so we are very happy to show you, and it is a little more minimal than what we have done lately."
Sound and Style
The song has a little different feeling than some of the music they have published lately. Giselle explains, "Well, we always try to do something new. With ‘Supernova’ and ‘Armageddon’, the instruments in general, not only of our singing, but everything is the opposite of minimalist, I think. There are many noises. The same applies to ‘whipped-up trauma’, another genre, but similar to many sounds, but more techno. We think that ‘dirty work’ is much less. The teasers that have come that far don’t really sound like that, but as soon as you heard the actual full song, I think that many people feel the different sounds and how it is much easier. But it has such a cool feeling."
Collaboration with Flo Milli
Karina shares her experience of working with Flo Milli, "First of all, we are very happy to work with a very large artist like Flo Milli. This is our first official cooperation with another artist, but we would like to work with artists who inspire us and create something unique together, which made this collaboration with Flo Milli so special. She was able to bring the mood of the song very fiery."
Pressure and Motivation
The group had a lot of success last year with their last publications. Winter says, "Of course I think that I can get so much love from the public that I have to feel pressure in a positive way. Instead of feeling negative and feeling stronger and feeling stronger and [with] More weight, I think that should be a positive way where we can have a positive impact on our fans and public and give our messages that we would like to send."
Growing with Fans
Ningning reflects on their experience of growing together with their fans, "From our debut so far we have always tried new music. We have challenged ourselves with new music and concerts. We made a lot of concerts that our dear fans met out there. I think we really grew up and really got better. I am very happy that we have this independent color when people think of AESPA and we continue to work on finding new colors. If we find our color and specificity in this music scene, we will grow. We are very grateful for our fans who loved [us along] This trip and who grew up with us."
Team Dynamics
Karina talks about how the group has developed over time, "As a team and I think that I was really more about music and the album with the youngest albums with our company that we do. As a team, we also talk to each other, we discuss a lot about music and the color that we actually want to show the public. We are constantly trying to find and study and give each other feedback about what is best on this trip. With these informative discussions we think the more we talk and discuss, we grow up faster. Our company also gives us a lot of help. As a team and as a person myself, I think that communication is the best way to grow up."
Future Plans
Giselle shares her hopes for AESPA as a whole or herself as an artist, "As a group we have obvious [all started this career] For various reasons, but it is all because of music and [that] We loved to appear and all of this. We all also want the best for each other, as in our own individual careers. I think every member of course has something in mind, and that would have been what we started here. I think our fans have not seen anything like this yet, of course nobody has done a big solo project, but one day it will come, hopefully."
Conclusion
The group is excited to show the world what they have in store for the future. With their unique sound and style, they are sure to continue to make waves in the music industry. As they continue to grow and evolve, they remain committed to their fans and to each other, and are excited to see what the future holds for them.
