Sony Pictures Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios Partnership
Sony Pictures Entertainment is taking over international sales for four upcoming Amazon MGM Studios releases as part of a multi-year agreement. This move is part of Amazon MGM Studios’ efforts to build its own international theater distribution infrastructure.
Upcoming Releases
The first title is Luca Guadagnino’s psychological drama "After the Hunt", starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield, which is set to be released on October 10th. Other titles included in the agreement are:
- "Compassion", a thriller starring Chris Pratt, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, set to be released on January 23, 2026
- "Crime 101", a heist film starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry, set to be released on February 13, 2026
- "Project Hail Mary", an adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, set to be released on March 20, 2026
Distribution Plans
After the release of "Project Hail Mary", Amazon MGM plans to distribute its own theatrical titles directly in selected areas where it has local offices. Sony will handle international sales in other markets. Universal Pictures will take on international sales for the next James Bond film, as per a prior agreement. Denis Villeneuve has been confirmed as the director, although there is no script and the actor to play Bond has yet to be announced.
