Introduction to Glastonbury Festival
The Glastonbury Festival kicked off with a bang, as night owls spent the first night of the event enjoying the dark and eccentric attractions on site. With firmly secured tents and bracelets, ticketholders eagerly waited in line to be among the first to enter the gates of Worthy Farm. The excitement was palpable on Wednesday as the festival began.
Opening Ceremony
For the first time in 35 years, the event organized an opening ceremony featuring a theater and circus act in front of the pyramid stage. The crowds gathered to watch the immersive performance, which included acrobats and singers. Many artists were suspended in the air, adding to the spectacle. The audience was asked to participate by switching on the movements of a digital cyclist on the screen on the Pyramid stage, creating a "collective sound landscape".
The Dreamweaver’s Journey
The performance, called Dreamweaver’s Journey, was described by the organizers as "beautiful chaos of sound". The show was a colorful representation of light, color, and sound, with human quantities encouraged to sing along with the "breathtaking air-outssey". The trip of the Dreamweaver was a unique experience that left a lasting impression on the audience.
Other Attractions
Elsewhere, others leaned into nostalgia and treated themselves to a 90s sing-along at! the Greenpeace level. The official opening of the surrounding construction level featured meditations, celebrations, offerings, and the ceremonial lighting of the Tolpuddle fire, which continuously burns from twilight until dawn. The lighting of the Tolpuddle Fire is a symbolic homage to the history and community spirit of the festival.
Fireworks and Gatherings
The evening culminated in a fireworks display from both ceremonies, which lit the sky with blazing paths and colorful sparks. Many people gathered in the Tipi village, in the stone circle, and at the foot of the Glastonbury sign to watch the spectacle. The night owls also gathered on the Holy Stone Circle to watch the sun rise. The fireworks marked the end of the first night of the festival, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next day’s events.
