Introduction to Baby Done Cry

“I hope you are not number one, but that only One”, says K-Pop legend Psy to The Hollywood Reporter, talking about the new group from his label. The four-member girl group, consisting of Yihyun, Mia, Kumi, and Beni, officially debuted on Monday with their main song "F Girl", which roughly translates to "regret will be wet".

The Debut Single "F Girl"

The song represents the group really well, according to Yihyun, the oldest member at just 19 years old. "I feel like the song itself is a very honest and very self-confident song, and I think that all members are also very confident in who they are." Mia adds that they were able to discuss and decide on the concept for their group, finally coming up with "F Girl". The two-minute song is described as a baby rock track, tedious, entertaining, and apologetically youthful, feeling like the soundtrack for a sleepover assembly in a teenager film.

Creative Management and Inspiration

The funny and unique sound of Baby Done Cry comes from their producer and creative director, Soyeon, also known as the leader of the K-Pop girl group (G)I-DLE. "She is someone who has already achieved what we want to achieve in the future, so she was able to give us very realistic and very reliable advice," says Yihyun. Soyeon remains an inspiration for the group, but the girls also count some K-pop heavyweights as their role models, including Blackpink’s Lisa and TWICE’s Chaeyoung.

Training and Preparation

The girls trained for five years, an impressive performance regardless of age, but even more impressive given that the group’s ages range from 19 to 16. Beni, the youngest, was a trainee for about six years before building P-Nation in 2018. Psy explains that the company contributed to preparing the girls for their debut by providing the opportunity for them to work with Soyeon as a producer. "Our five years of training were effort. Soyeon performed as a producer; that was the opportunity," he says.

Looking Ahead

While debuting is only step one, the members of BDC are already looking ahead. "I think all of our members have confident, but also beautiful personalities," says Mia. "I really want our group in general to be perceived as that – a very beautiful but self-confident group." With their unique sound and confident personalities, Baby Done Cry is ready to take the K-pop world by storm. The Hollywood Reporter has more exclusive pictures of Baby Done Cry’s debut.
