Disney’s Upcoming Slate: A World of Magic, Miracle, and Joy

Disney’s Cineeurope Slate presentation on Wednesday afternoon, June 18, was a showcase of the brand’s 100-year legacy, with a series of titles that embody the spirit of "magic, miracle, and joy." The presentation, led by Andrew Cripps, head of theater distribution, highlighted the importance of immersive experiences and bringing imagination to life.

A Diverse Slate of Films

The studio presented a slate with a "regular 12-month cadence" and films that "exclusively play on the big screen." The upcoming titles include new releases from all seven Disney brands: Disney, Pixar, Walt Disney Studios Animation, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, Lucasfilm, and Searchlight Pictures. The presentation also featured some of Disney’s latest achievements, including three films that played more than $1 billion at the global box office last year: Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Moana 2.

Pixar: New and Original Stories

Pixar’s upcoming releases include Elio and Hopper, an original story about a young environmental activist who "jumps" into the body of a beaver. The segment ended with a sequence from the film, which offered a "strong dose of adorable." Next summer, Toy Story 5 will continue Pixar’s most popular franchise, with a non-final animation sequence shown during the presentation.

Disney’s Live-Action Division

The live-action division presented franchise properties More Freaky Friday and Tron: Ares. For More Freaky Friday, the co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan played in a filmed greeting, while Tron: Ares featured a message from director Joachim Ronning and film material driven by a score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails.

Marvel Slate Presentation

The Marvel Slate presentation included a filmed welcome from president Kevin Feige, showcasing The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday, which combines a dizzying selection of performers from Marvel’s Avengers, X-Men, Thunderbolts, and Black Panther franchises. Matt Shakman and the Russo Brothers will direct these new Marvel titles.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

The Walt Disney Animation Studios segment started with dancing animals in Zootropolis 2 (also known as Zootopia 2), which will feature two sequences from the film. The marketers plan to use these sequences in meme-friendly content to promote the movie.

Lucasfilm and Searchlight Pictures

By Lucasfilm, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first big-screen adventure for the characters from the Disney+ series, offering "larger scale" and "wider adventure." Jon Favreau will direct, and Pedro Pascal will star alongside Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen. Searchlight’s Rebecca Kearey presented two upcoming titles: Is That Thing On? and Wild Horse Nine, followed by introductions to Ready or Not 2: I’m Coming for You, Rental Family, and The Roses.

20th Century Studios

The 20th Century Studios presentation included seven new films, with director Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands making the predator character the hero of the adventure. Other upcoming titles include Ella McCay, Send Help, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Dog Star, adapted from Peter Heller’s 2012 novel.

Priority Titles

The slate from 20th Century Studios culminated in two priority titles from directors Scott Cooper and James Cameron. Springsteen: I Ran Out of Nowhere will capture a transformative time in Bruce Springsteen’s life, while Avatar: Fire and Ash will explore fresh worlds in Pandora, with the Cineeuropa audience donning 3D glasses to experience the film’s full effect.

Disney’s upcoming slate includes:
