Introduction to Enhypen
K-pop stars Enhypen are in the middle of a banner year. The seven-member boy group under Hybe’s Belift Lab has just released their sixth EP, Desire: Unleashed, and made their Coachella debut in April. They are now preparing for a world tour in North America and Europe.
Formation and History
Enhypen was formed through the music survival show I-Land, a joint venture between Hybe and Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM. The show was broadcast on CJ ENM’s channel Mnet in South Korea. The group’s members, Jungwon, Heesung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki, have been making music together since their debut.
Latest Album: Desire Unleashed
On their latest album, Enhypen explores the concept of desire in all its forms. The album’s lead single, "Bad Desire (with or without her)", is a catchy and upbeat track that fits in with their previous releases. The music video for the song starts with a haunting voiceover, "Did you really think I could just stand there and watch you disappear?" This theme of supernatural desire, particularly vampire-inspired, is a continuation of Enhypen’s history and tradition.
Inspiration and Meaning Behind the Album
According to Jungwon, the concept behind Desire: Unleashed is the desire that can take many forms. He explains that one of these forms is the desire to be with the person you love, and the struggles and internal conflicts that come with it. The album is a reflection of the group’s growth and exploration of their emotions.
Favorite Songs and Tracks
When asked about their favorite songs on the album, Jake mentioned "Lose", a relaxing and uplifting track. Sunoo, on the other hand, prefers "Flash", a high-energy song that gets him pumped up. Jay also shared his experience producing and playing guitar on the track "Helium", which he is particularly proud of.
Coachella Experience
Enhypen’s performance at Coachella was a significant milestone for the group. Despite some technical difficulties and weather issues, they described the experience as "great" and "exciting". Jay mentioned that the energy and mood of the crowd were different from what they were used to, but in a good way. The group also got to watch other artists perform, including Post Malone, Benson Boone, and Tyla.
Upcoming World Tour
Enhypen is preparing to embark on their world tour in the US this summer. Fans can expect a high-energy performance with a mix of old and new songs, including some newly arranged tracks. Ni-ki mentioned that they have prepared a lot of surprises for the tour, and are particularly excited to perform "Pass the Mic" for their US fans.
Growth and Connection with Fans
Enhypen’s trajectory as a group is unique in that they grew up alongside their music and their fans, known as "Engene". Jungwon reflected on this experience, saying that it has allowed them to share their growth and imperfections with their fans, creating a closer connection. The group is grateful for the opportunity to communicate and connect with their fans, and hopes to continue this beautiful relationship in the future.
Milestone in Their Career
Sunghoon believes that this album marks a critical point in their career, a milestone that will differentiate their journey before and after its release. The group is excited to see how their music will evolve and how they will grow as artists, and they are grateful to have their fans along for the ride.
