Exhibitions Celebrate Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath
Introduction to the Legends
Two exhibitions in Birmingham’s city center are dedicated to the achievements of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, celebrating "a true Brummie icon". The shows, which coincide with the band’s final reunion appearance in Birmingham in July, are "a thank you to the fans and the city of Birmingham – the place where it all started," according to Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife.
The Working Class Hero Exhibition
A free exhibition entitled Working Class Hero will be held at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery from June 25th to September 28th. The exhibition will showcase the singer’s most prestigious international honors, including Grammy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A selection of platinum and gold discs that recognize millions of record sales will also be on display. Other photos and videos will chart Ozzy’s journey from "a working-class kid from Aston" to one of the most famous rock stars in the world.
Black Sabbath’s Archive and Iconic Album Art
Other pictures showcasing the band’s archive and iconic album art will also be exhibited in the city’s Victoria Square. The artist MR Murals has created a 120-foot wall mural representing all four original members of Black Sabbath – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. The mural, located in Navigation Street near Grand Central Station, is said to be the "perfect spot for a Sabbath selfie".
A Celebration of Creativity and Heritage
The exhibitions are a "celebration of creativity, heritage, and the influence of our city – and an opportunity for fans to walk in the footsteps of legends," said Sam Watson, chairman of Central Bid Birmingham, who helped organize the events. Together, they form a "landmark to one of the most influential rock bands in history". The celebration of Ozzy’s life and achievements, who is deeply connected to the city, aligns perfectly with the mission of the Birmingham Museum Trust to reflect and share the city’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
