Introduction to the New DCU

With a new DCU taking shape in Metropolis, Matt Reeves’ Batman is still lurking in the shadows of Gotham City. The co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, recently assured fans that Robert Pattinson’s iteration of The Dark Knight is "still there." This confirmation came after the author/director Reeves finished a new draft in 2022, shortly before the completion of The Batman.

The Status of Matt Reeves’ Batman

Gunn emphasized that what Matt Reeves does is "still very important" despite contrary stories. He expressed his eagerness to see the script soon, stating, "We should see this script shortly, and I can’t wait." This indicates that Reeves’ work on The Batman is ongoing and will continue to be a part of the DCU.

Related Projects and Updates

In the same interview, Gunn teased that a new Wonder Woman project is "currently being written" after Gal Gadot’s term as the superhero in the DCEU. Additionally, Gunn’s Superhuman is set to premiere on July 11th, which will start a new DCU separated from Reeves’ Batman epic crime saga, The Batman (2022), and last year’s Max series spin-off, The Penguin.

The Batman Part II and Future Plans

After Gunn defended the delays of The Batman Part II in January, Reeves announced that the sequel will start filming this year, with a release date set for October 1, 2027. Reeves mentioned that the story will continue, but with surprises, saying, "We’re doing something where the story continues, but I hope people will be surprised." Robert Pattinson confirmed plans to shoot "at the end of the year," jokingly referring to himself as "old Batman" at 38 years old.

Conclusion and Future of the DCU

The new DCU, starting with Superhuman, will be separate from The Batman and its spin-offs. However, Matt Reeves’ Batman is still an essential part of the DCU, with a sequel in the works. Fans can expect more updates and surprises from the DCU, including the new Wonder Woman project and The Batman Part II. As the DCU continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see how these different storylines and characters come together to shape the future of the franchise.
