Doechii Wins Big at the 2025 Bet Awards
Doechii took home the title of the best female hip hop artist at the 2025 Bet Awards, and she used her acceptance speech to illuminate the continuing protests against illegal immigration attacks in Los Angeles. The rapper, known for her hit song "Alter Ego," found herself at the award ceremony for the first time and showed love to her fellow nominees before she realized that "I was honored so much by this award, I want to approach what happens outside of the building."
Speaking Out Against Injustice
"There are ruthless attacks that create fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order," she said. "Trump uses armed forces to stop a protest and I want you to consider what kind of government it appears if we are used against us every time we exercise our democratic protest law." Doechii questioned the government’s actions on stage at the 25th Bet Awards, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Protests in Los Angeles
A wave of immigration attacks in LA triggered last week, which led to clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement authorities throughout the district. On Sunday, the residents gathered in the town hall and in the federal court and brought step to President Donald Trump’s step to use the state’s national guard. California governor Gavin Newsom formally requested that the Trump government "abolishes its illegal use of troops in Los Angeles County and brings them back to my command".
A Call to Action
"People are torn down and torn by their families, and I think that it is my responsibility as an artist to speak this moment for all oppressed people: for black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza," added Doechii. "We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear, and I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate and we protest against it. Thank you, bet."
