Introduction to Emma Hewitt’s New Role
Emma Hewitt, the current Head of Communication at BBC Film, is set to take on a new challenge as the Director of Corporate Affairs at the British Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA). In this new role, Hewitt will be leading CIISA’s strategic communication and public activities, and is expected to start later this month.
About CIISA
CIISA is an industry-financed corporation that aims to prevent and tackle issues such as bullying, harassment, and discriminatory behavior in the creative industry. The organization launched its first standard framework in February and is working to expand its commitment and awareness in the creative sectors, including film, music, and theater.
Hewitt’s Background and Experience
Hewitt has been the Head of Communication at BBC Film since 2018 and is also the co-chair of the BIFA consulting committee. Prior to her role at BBC Film, she was the deputy press and PR leader at the BFI and began her career at the regional screen agency EM Media. Her experience and expertise in the film industry make her a great fit for her new role at CIISA.
Reaction to Hewitt’s New Role
Jen Smith, CEO of CIISA, expressed her excitement about Hewitt joining the team, stating that "Emma will play a crucial role in the next phase of the development of CIISA, as we prepare to launch our services and expand our commitment and awareness in the creative sectors." Hewitt also expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, saying that "CIISA is about protecting the people who power the extraordinary creative industry in Britain and enabling them to create their best work and the industries to grow and thrive – the opportunity to build this groundbreaking organization and their important work is very exciting."
Transition at BBC Film
As Hewitt prepares to leave her role at BBC Film, the former Premier PR managing director Claire Gascoyne has temporarily returned to the BBC Film team. Eva Yates, director of BBC Film, thanked Hewitt for her "really brilliant work" and expressed her confidence that Hewitt will be "an impressive and dynamic force" in her new role at CIISA.
Recent Successes at BBC Film
BBC Film has recently seen success with four of its backed features being showcased at Cannes, each receiving jury awards. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team at BBC Film, and Hewitt’s contributions to the organization will not be forgotten.
