Introduction to Slano Film Days
The second edition of Slano Film Days is set to take place in the Croatian city of Slano from June 17th to 21st. In cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival of Bosnia & Herzegovina, the event will bring together 14 emerging filmmakers from the region with established international experts through a program of discussions and demonstrations.
Participants and Guests
The participants consist of five directors, six actors, and three cameramen. International guests include Ruben Ostlund, Maura Delpero, Juho Kuosmanen, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban cameraman Michael Seresin. Ostlund will discuss his experience and work on his seventh film, The Entertainment System Failed, and offer participants the opportunity to see his processing process.
Screening Program
The screening program will feature Thomas Vinterberg’s 2020 dark comedy Another Round, introduced by Kuosmanen. Additionally, Daniel Brühl will show his breakout role in Wolfgang Becker’s 2003 Goodbye, Lenin!, and Steve Buscemi will present Tolga Karaçelik’s 2024 Psychotherapy, in which he played the leading role. Pavel Pawlikowski will introduce his 2024 film Muse with a live piano performance of the score by composer Marcin Masecki before a screening of Carol Reed’s classic 1949 film The Third Man.
Cinelink Workshop
Slano Film Days will also host the Cinelink Workshop, part of the Cinelink Industry Days of the Sarajevo Film Festival. Eight feature film projects were selected to take part in the workshop, which supports script development through consultations and expert advice. Selected projects include Azeri filmmaker Hilal Baydarov’s Stone over Stone and David Kapac’s Croatian project Pagan. The workshop will also feature five regional series projects, including Asmina Pedro’s political thriller Under the Surface from Greece.
Community Involvement
Slano Film Days aims to engage the local community with a family film weekend, featuring two screenings in Villa Riva on the weekends before the official start of the event. The DreamWorks animation of Universal Live Action will present How to Train Your Kite on June 14th, ahead of Taika Waititi’s adventure comedy Hunt for the Wilderpeople the next day.
