Life After Hannah Montana

Miley Cyrus had to leave behind a lot after leaving the Disney Channel’s hit show "Hannah Montana". The show, which followed a regular teenager who led a double life as a pop sensation, ran from 2006 to 2011 and catapulted Cyrus to stardom.

Restrictions on Singing Hannah Montana Songs

In a recent interview on Spotify’s "The Wrestler" Podcast, Cyrus revealed that she was not allowed to sing any of the original songs from her TV series after the show ended in 2011. "After leaving Disney, I was not allowed to perform any of Hannah Montana’s music," she said. This was a difficult restriction for Cyrus, as the songs were closely tied to her identity as an artist.

Moving On to New Music

Cyrus noted that it wouldn’t have made sense to sing Hannah Montana songs alongside her newer hits like "We Can’t Stop" and "Wrecking Ball". However, she admitted that it was still sad to know that she couldn’t perform songs that featured her voice and face. "It was still sad to know that these songs have my voice, my face, and I couldn’t sing it," she added.

A New Chapter

After being named a Disney legend at D23 2022, Cyrus was given permission to perform Hannah Montana songs in the future. She found this to be "pretty cool" and a welcome change. This new development has opened up new possibilities for Cyrus, who is now free to revisit her past and perform songs that were previously off-limits.

The Hannah Montana Legacy

"Hannah Montana" was a groundbreaking show that ran for 100 episodes on the Disney Channel. The show’s success can be attributed to its talented cast, including Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mitchel Musso, and Moises Arias. The show’s impact on popular culture is still felt today, and its legacy continues to inspire new generations of fans.

Current Projects

Cyrus’s latest project is "Endless Summer Vacation (Something About Me?)" a 55-minute visual album that will be released in cinemas on June 12th. At the premiere, Cyrus paid tribute to the female artists who inspired her work, including Tina Turner, Donna Summer, and Diana Ross. "I adore the Tina Turners, the Donna Summers, Diana Ross and so many ladies in front of me who fully paved this path that I’m on," she said. "This is my journey, but you made it so much easier because you’ve already opened all the doors for me."
