Introduction to Fantasia International Film Festival

The 29th Fantasia International Film Festival is set to open on July 16 and will run until August 3 in Montreal. This year’s festival will feature a wide range of exciting films, including the world premiere of Ari Aster’s Eddington, which recently debuted in Cannes.

Featured Films

Eddington stars Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix in a tense drama about a small-town sheriff and mayor in New Mexico. The film is set to be released in the US on July 18 by A24. Other notable films include Nyaight of the living cat, as well as the Canadian premieres of Blazing and Glow.

New and Emerging Talent

The festival will also feature the work of new and emerging talent, including director Izabel Pakzad’s girl-trip survival thriller Find your friends, starring Helena Howard and Bella Thorne. Other world premieres include Ava Maria Safai’s feature debut and the high school horror film Foreigner, as well as Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s Frightening stories.

Special Events and Awards

George Mihalka will be receiving the Canadian Trailblazer Prize 2025, recognizing his 40-year career in film, which includes My bloody Valentine and Enemy takeover. Mihalka will also be delivering a master class at the festival. The festival will offer a range of demonstrations, workshops, and special events, taking place at Concordia Hall and other venues.

Festival Lineup and Schedule

The first wave of films was announced last month, featuring new work by Hwang Wook, the Adams family, Steve Pink, Julie Pacino, and Brock Bodell. The full lineup will be announced in July, with the festival promising an exciting and diverse range of films and events.
