FIDMarseille 2025: A Celebration of Independent Cinema
The 36th edition of FIDMarseille is set to take place from July 8th to 13th, featuring a diverse selection of 76 films, including 51 titles in competition and 43 world premieres. The festival aims to put independent cinema in the spotlight, showcasing films that are aware of the sounds of the contemporary world and stories that reveal its fractures.
International Competition
The international competition includes 14 films, each offering a unique perspective on the world. Some of the notable films in this category include:
- Fuck the polis by Rita Azevedo Gomes, a Portuguese filmmaker who will present the world premiere of her film, which follows a woman who revisits her past journey to Greece 20 years later.
- Cold metal by Clemente Castor, a Mexican filmmaker who will showcase his second feature film, which tells the story of a man who wakes up without memory of his past life and begins to drift from the eastern suburbs of Mexico City to the surrounding underground caves.
- Revelations of divine love by Caroline Golum, a US actress and filmmaker who will present her second feature film, inspired by the life story of 14th-century mystic Julian of Norwich.
French Competition
The French competition consists of eight titles, including six feature films, all of which are world premieres. This category showcases the best of French independent cinema, with films that explore themes of identity, social justice, and personal struggle.
First Film Competition
The first film competition features 11 world premieres, including All streets lead to them by Jenya Mykos, a co-production of Ukraine and Portugal that explores the consequences of the Russian invasion of Crimea.
