Celebrating 50 Years of Talking Heads
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Talking Heads’ first live performance, the legendary rock band has finally published a music video for "Psycho Killer" featuring none other than Saoirse Ronan.
The Music Video
The music video, directed by Mike Mills, was created to celebrate Talking Heads’ live debut at CBGB on June 5, 1975. In the video, Ronan portrays a woman who "wrestles with her emotions while going through her daily routine". The video features minimal contrasting recordings, with Ronan transitioning between different locations such as her bedroom, kitchen, office, and car, conveying a range of emotions.
A Unique Interpretation
The music video is a unique interpretation of the song, and Talking Heads have expressed their love for it. "This video makes the song better," they said. "We love what this video is not – it is not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious." The video can be viewed on YouTube, and it’s a must-see for fans of the band.
The Song’s History
"Psycho Killer" was released as part of Talking Heads’ first album, "Talking Heads: 77", and is one of their most popular hits. The song has been certified double platinum and is included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s list of 500 songs that have shaped rock ‘n’ roll.
A Dream Come True for Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse Ronan, the star of "Little Women", has shared her admiration for Talking Heads and said that working with them was a dream come true. "I grew up with their music, so this has really become a childhood/teenage/lifelong dream," she said. "To be able to make a video with the singular Mike Mills to accompany one of their most iconic songs – ‘Psycho Killer’ – is undoubtedly one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me." Ronan and the rest of the creative team had a blast making the video, and fans of Talking Heads are sure to love it.
