Box Office Boost in France

France’s box office experienced a significant boost in the month of May, thanks to the release of several highly anticipated films. After a slow start to the month, the box office saw a surge in ticket sales with the release of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and Paramount’s Mission Impossible – The Final Billing on May 21st. These two films alone accounted for almost 3 million ticket sales, which is approximately 70% of the total box office for the month.

Top Performing Films

Lilo & Stitch sold an impressive 1.3 million tickets, earning €9.5 million, making it the best opening week of the year. Mission Impossible – The Final Billing attracted around 866,000 viewers, earning €6.3 million. Another Disney film, Thunderbolts, which was released on April 30th, clocked in with over 1 million ticket sales, earning €7.3 million.

Other Notable Releases

Other Hollywood films that performed well at the box office include Warner Bros.’ The Final Bloodlines with 532,000 ticket sales, Sinner with 384,000 ticket sales, and The Minecraft Movie with 300,000 ticket sales. Local titles also made an impact, with Pathé’s Leave a Day selling 363,000 tickets and Studiocanal’s Colors of the Time selling 190,700 tickets.

French Film Industry Performance

The French film industry saw a 24.9% increase in ticket sales compared to the previous year, with 11.8 million tickets sold in May, earning €86 million. This brings the total number of tickets sold in French cinemas since the beginning of the year to 64.4 million, earning €470.1 million.

Upcoming Releases

The French distributor sector is optimistic about the summer months, with a number of family-friendly films set to be released. These include Disney’s Elio and How to Train Your Kite, as well as potential blockbusters like Ballerina and F1: The Film. French films with potential include 13 Days, 13 Nights – In the Hell of Kabul and the comedy Rodrigue in Love. With a promising lineup of films, the French box office is expected to continue to thrive in the coming months.
