Festival Celebrates 40 Years of Music
The organizers of a festival in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, are excited to announce that this year’s line-up will reflect "40 years of music styles". The festival has been running since 1985 and has become a staple in the city’s cultural calendar.
A Star-Studded Line-up
This year’s festival will feature a range of artists, from 80s favorites Tony Hadley and Sonia to contemporary stars like Ella Henderson. The event will kick off on June 28th and 29th on King’s Parade and will run every weekend until July 12th on Tuesday Market Place. The opening night will feature tribute acts to Taylor Swift and Oasis, while the final night will be headlined by local singer Adam Tucker, Jo O’Meara from S Club Seven, and Ella Henderson.
Supporting Local Talent
Every evening will begin with a performance by a school band or group, followed by local bands who will warm up the crowd for the well-known artists. Abbie Panks from the festival said, "It’s great to give these opportunities, and that’s really important to us." The festival is committed to supporting local talent and providing a platform for them to perform in front of a large audience.
A Free Event for All
The festival is free to attend, and its budget has grown from £5,000 in its first year to £130,000 today, thanks to donations and support from the local council and businesses. According to Ms. Panks, the event is the largest free outdoor festival in Europe, and its accessibility is one of its greatest strengths. "It’s access to music without financial barriers, that’s the great thing about it," she said. "Everyone can come, they don’t need tickets, they just turn up, and we get a fantastic audience."
A Community Effort
The festival has continued to run with the help of volunteers from the community, who work tirelessly to ensure the event’s success. Over the years, the festival has featured a range of acts, including Feeder, Sigala, Example, Reef, Vamps, Busted, KT Tunstall, and Gabrielle. The festival’s commitment to providing free music to the community has made it a beloved event in King’s Lynn, and its 40th anniversary is set to be a celebration to remember.
