Young Artists Bring River to Life with Colorful Mural
The Avon River in Bath has a new burst of color thanks to a group of young artists who created a vibrant mural celebrating the unique animal world along the river. The mural, located next to the river, is part of a series of improvements by Bath River Line, a 10 km long section of the river between Newbridge and Bathhampton.
The Creation of the Mural
The mural covers the wall of an Army Reserve Center and was a collaboration between Bath and North East Somerset Council and Little Lost Robot, an independent non-profit artist collective. Council member Paul May, a member of the cabinet for child protection services, said the mural "showed the creative skills that exist in our community and helps to open a route of the way". Four young artists developed the artwork during workshops for those who were not in education, employment, or training (NEET) and aims to combine the community and visitors to the natural environment.
Benefits for the Community and Artists
Ruby Sant, director of Little Lost Robot, said: "It is a great opportunity for emerging artists to receive paid employment and to provide works of art for the public [and] start a career in the arts." The mural not only beautifies the area but also provides a platform for young artists to showcase their talents. Mr. May added: "I would encourage residents and visitors to explore the Bath River line and to look at this wonderful work of art that celebrates the natural environment of our river benches."
Improving the River Line
Construction recently started on the first phase of the River Line project between Windsor Bridge and Green Park, which includes improved access, new seats, and ecological plants. Sarah Warren, a member of the cabinet for Sustainable Bath and North East Somerset, said: "The Bath River line supports the vision of the council to be positive by 2030 by creating and improving the natural habitats along the river to improve biodiversity and resilience to climate change and to enjoy social spaces."
Future Developments
The work on the river line will continue in August, with further phases to be delivered beyond. The project aims to create a thriving natural environment along the river, making it a great place for residents and visitors to enjoy. With the addition of the colorful mural, the Avon River is becoming an even more vibrant and exciting place to explore.
