The American Music Awards Return with a Bang

The American Music Awards, who had not broadcast a live event since 2022, returned with a bang on Monday evening via its new CBS home. The 2025 edition of The AMAs, hosted by Jennifer Lopez, had an average of 4.73 million viewers – a significant increase from the November 2022 broadcast on ABC.

Record-Breaking Wins

Billie Eilish stole the show, winning in all seven categories she was nominated for, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for "Hit Me Hard and Soft", Favorite Tour Artist, Favorite Pop Artist, Song of the Year, and Favorite Pop Song. Her impressive wins made her the star of the evening.

A New Home for the AMAs

CBS acquired the AMA broadcast deal in May 2024, along with the Golden Globes. In October, CBS broadcast a special introductory show, the "American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special". The network’s parent company, PMC, has a joint venture with Eldridge, which owns Dick Clark Productions.

Ratings and Viewership

The Eye Network reported that the AMAs were the number one show of the night, with significant growth in key demographics compared to the 2022 live broadcast. The show saw an 84% increase in adults 18-34, 19% increase in adults 18-49, and 13% increase in adults 25-54.

Social Media Impact

The AMAs made a significant impact on social media, with 9.2 billion potential impressions and 816.6K social media mentions. The show’s social accounts also saw a surge in engagement, with a significant increase in followers on Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook within the first 24 hours. Additionally, the AMAs Twitch Live stream reached 205,500 viewers during YouTube star Kai Cenat’s appearance.
