Introduction to Sirât
The match factory received 20 additional sales from Cannes Jury award winner Sirât, including large areas in Great Britain, Germany, and Latin America. This is a significant milestone for the film, which has been gaining traction worldwide.
Distribution Deals
Oliver Laxe’s film has been sold to various countries, including Great Britain and Ireland (Height), Latin America (Cine Video Y TV), Benelux (Cineart), Germany and Austria (Pandora Film), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Japan (Transformator), South Korea (Challan), Taiwan (Andrew’s Film), Australia and New Zealand (Palace), Poland (New Horizons), Sweden (Folkets Bio), Hungary (Cirko Film), and the Baltics (A-One Films).
North America and Other Territories
NEON bought the film for North America, while Mubi acquired the rights for Italy, Turkey, and India. Pyramid will release Sirât in France, and Bteam Pictures will release the film in Spain on June 6th.
The Film’s Storyline
Sirât follows a father and son who attend a rave in the mountains of South Morocco, where they search for the father’s daughter and the son’s sister. The film had its world premiere on Thursday, May 15th, in Cannes.
Production and Awards
Sirât was produced by Pedro Almodovar, Agustin Almodovar, and Esther Garcia for their El Deseo banners, along with Xavi Font and Laxe for Films by Ermida, Oriol Maymo for Uri Films, Mani Mortazavi and Andrea Queral for 4A4 Production, and Domingo Corral for Movistar Plus+. The film received the Jury Award at the festival’s closing ceremony, along with Mascha Schilinski’s Noise of the Fall. Additionally, Sirât received the Independent Cannes Soundtrack Award, which was awarded by a jury of journalists.
