Introduction to the Africa International Film Festival (AFRF) Launch

The Africa International Film Festival (AFRF) has launched the Ariff Film and Content Market (AFCM) through a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Industry. This significant move aims to create an international marketplace for film, television, and digital content, set to debut at the 2025 ARIFF in Lagos, Nigeria, with dates yet to be confirmed.

Partnership and Leadership

Former European Film Market Director, Dennis Ruh, has been appointed as a senior consultant for AFCM. His role will involve bringing together pathogens, investors, dealers, and political decision-makers from around the world. A memorandum of understanding for the market was signed in Cannes by Afriff founder Chioma Ude, alongside notable participants including Ali Nuhu, Managing Director of Nigerian Film Corporation, and Nigerian writer and comedian Bovi Ugboma.

Government Support and Objectives

Hannatu Musawa, Nigerian Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Industry, emphasized the government’s interest in expanding the country’s economic possibilities through the film industry. Musawa highlighted the importance of creating a friendly environment by working with the private sector and key industry players to drive the industry to greater heights. The government’s support underscores the potential of the film industry as a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economy.

Features of the Ariff Film and Content Market

The first AFCM will feature curated showcases of African and international content, project pitch sessions, international exhibitions for production and sales content, and numerous networking opportunities. These elements are designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and growth within the film and content creation sector.

Collaboration with Goldfinch International

AFRF has also partnered with Goldfinch International, a financier based in Great Britain and part of the Goldfinch finance and production group. Goldfinch International plans to use AFCM as a launchpad for several Africa-focused initiatives, which are currently under wraps. This partnership signals a significant investment in the African film industry and its potential for global reach and impact.

Conclusion

The launch of AFCM marks a pivotal moment for the African film industry, offering a platform for creators, investors, and industry professionals to come together. With the support of the Nigerian government and partnerships like the one with Goldfinch International, AFCM is poised to become a leading marketplace for film and content in Africa, promoting growth, innovation, and collaboration on a global scale.
