The Music Industry Unites for a Great Cause
The music industry is coming together on October 15th at the Los Angeles Pacific Design Center to celebrate the City of Hope Spirit of Life gala. This year’s award winner, Tom Corson, co-chair and COO of Warner Records, is being honored for his work with the leading comprehensive cancer center. The event is expected to be a star-studded affair, with Michael Bublé set to make an appearance.
Restoring the Abundance of Life
Tom Corson spoke about the importance of the event, saying, "This year’s campaign is more than just about donations – it’s about restoring the abundance of life." He emphasized the significance of supporting City of Hope, stating, "With Warner, we often say it’s not just about the song – it’s about the artist. In the same way, City of Hope is about people, their dreams, and their future. It’s an honor to support this work."
A Leader in the Music Industry and Philanthropy
Corson’s recognition as Spirit of Life reflects both his professional achievements and his long-standing commitment to philanthropy. As a member of the City of Hope board and its committee for the Taste of Hope, he has been instrumental in promoting research and patient care. His leadership and dedication have made a significant impact on the music industry and beyond.
Praise from Colleagues and Peers
Aaron Bay-Schuck, Corson’s partner at Warner Records and Co-Chairman/CEO, praised his colleague’s leadership, saying, "Tom is a protector. He protected our artists, our team, and our company in some of the most difficult times, including Covid and the LA wildfires." Bay-Schuck added, "And when cancer came to his home, he protected his family and friends with unshakable strength. That’s why this award is so appropriate. Tom illustrates what the Spirit of Life stands for. His leadership, resilience, and humanity inspire us all."
A Personal Connection to the Cause
Michael Bublé, who will be appearing at the event, spoke about his personal connection to the cause, saying, "Like so many people, my family was personally affected by cancer. City of Hope does the work that changes lives. I’m enthusiastic about supporting and helping this cause in honor of Tom, whose leadership continues to have a deep effect."
The Impact of Philanthropy
Kristin Bertell, Chief Philanthropy Officer at City of Hope, emphasized the importance of philanthropy, stating, "Philanthropy is what fuels our pace. Every time the music community comes together, it brings energy, resources, and hope to those facing cancer. And it reminds every patient that they are not alone."
A Long-Standing Relationship
City of Hope has a long-standing relationship with the music industry, dating back over 50 years to 1973, when Warner’s own Mo Ostin first got involved. Today, the institution remains one of the best in the state for cancer research and treatment, and its partnership with the music industry continues to make a significant impact.
