Universal Music Group’s Big Move

The Universal Music Group is set to move its New York offices to a new location in Manhattan. The company has signed a rental contract for the Penn 2 building, with plans to make the move in 2027.

New Headquarters

The new offices will serve as the headquarters for UMG’s East Coast operations, including the Republic, DEF JAM, Island Records, and Mercury label groups. Additionally, the offices will house Bravado, UMG’s merchandise arm, the Verve Music Group, and the eastern coastal offices of the Universal Music Publishing Group.

A New Hub for Music

According to Boyd Muir, UMG’s Chief Operating Officer, the move reflects the company’s vision and ambitions. The new location, situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan and next to the iconic Madison Square Garden, will provide an ideal hub for employees, artists, and songwriters.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The new office space will feature music studios and retail rooms on the ground floor of Penn 2, located on Seventh Avenue. UMG has signed a 22-year rental agreement, taking over the entire fourth to seventh floor of the building.

A New Era for the Penn District

Glen Weiss, Executive Vice President of Office Leasing and Co-Head of Real Estate at Vornado Realty Trust, welcomed UMG to the Penn District, citing the area’s growing reputation as a hub for global brands in business, lifestyle, and entertainment. The commitment of Universal Music to Penn 2 is seen as further evidence of the district’s appeal to major brands.
