Incident at Cannes Film Festival
A serious incident occurred at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, May 17th, when a palm tree fell and injured a producer from the Japanese film company Lepros Entertainment. The producer was part of the team for the film "Brand new landscape", which was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight, a parallel section of the festival.
What Happened
The incident took place at 12 noon on the Croisette, in front of the Mademoiselle Gray Plage beach, where the filmmakers were attending an event. A 3m-high palm tree suddenly fell, injuring the producer, who was immediately taken to a local hospital by emergency services.
Injuries and Medical Treatment
According to a statement from the co-producers, Siglo Co. and Lespros Entertainment, the injured producer suffered breaks to the nose and other parts of the body. Fortunately, the producer is in a stable condition and is receiving medical treatment and recovery under professional supervision.
Response from Festival Organizers
The production team has not yet received an official report on the incident from the festival organizers or local authorities. In a statement, they expressed their hope for a quick examination of the cause and the implementation of preventive measures to ensure that such accidents do not happen again in the future.
The Film
"Brand new landscape" marks the debut of Yuiga Danzuka, the youngest Japanese filmmaker to be selected for the Directors’ Fortnight. The film plays out in Tokyo’s Shibuya district and explores the relationship between a father and son after the mother’s death. The film stars Kodai Kurosaki in his first leading role, alongside experienced actor Kenichi Endo, who also stars in the Cannes 2023 title "Worse".
