Introduction to Cannes Close-Up
In this issue of Cannes Close-Up, a series of interviews with prominent figures in the film industry, director Dominik Moll and actress Léa Seydoux discuss their latest project, Case 137, a police corruption drama set against the backdrop of the 2018 Paris protests against economic inequality.
The Real-Life Inspiration Behind Case 137
Moll’s film incorporates real-life footage from the yellow vest movement, which he shot and recreated himself, as well as footage from journalists at the time. "It is not a documentary, it’s a fictional work," Moll explains. "But the pictures that we see from the yellow west movement are partially film material that we shot and rebuilt ourselves, and also partially film material from journalists at that time." This unique approach adds a layer of authenticity to the film, making it a compelling watch.
The Cast’s Take on Cannes
Seydoux also shared her love for Cannes, a city that has become synonymous with the film industry. Both Moll and Seydoux selected their favorite French films of all time, giving fans a glimpse into their cinematic tastes.
