Introduction to Finneas’ New Music Video
Kate Hudson is the star in the music video of Finneas’ 2001, which the super producer released on Wednesday. In the music video, Finneas plays an actor who seeks Hudson’s love and attention when he stars in her intergalactic film.
The Music Video Plot
In the clips, Finneas sings the lyrics to the track while chasing Hudson, who doesn’t pay him much attention. He sings, "Honey, what you run from? / When you come back to bed? / Throw and turn me around / honey all night, what you run from? / Where to the hell did you go?" throughout the song.
Behind the Scenes
The music video was actually directed by Finneas’ friend, Claudia Sulewski, who was inspired by the 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey". Sulewski included allusions to some of the best-known setups of the film, such as The Fisheye Locative and the wrong sequence, as well as a few small Easter eggs from the film’s scenes.
Inspiration and Production
Sulewski said, "When I started designing this music video, I knew I wanted to pay homage to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’". The story follows an actor who hopelessly falls in love with his director and only focuses on making a great film.
The Song and Album
"2001" comes from Finneas’ second studio album, "Optimist". The album also includes other tracks like "Family Feud" and "Lotus Eater". Apart from his music, Finneas received four Grammy nominations at the 2025 award ceremony, all of which come from Billie Eilish’s "Happier Than Ever". The record has won a nod for the coveted Album of the Year and for the categories Song/Record of the Year.
