Introduction to Sundance Film Festival: CDMX
The Sundance Film Festival: CDMX in Mexico City has kicked off with a bang, featuring a range of exciting documentaries and narrative films. This year’s festival includes a documentary about the former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, directed by Michelle Walshe and Lindsay Utz, which won the audience award: World Cinema – Documentary at the Sundance Festival in the USA.
Documentary Films
The documentary lineup includes eight films, each with its own unique story to tell. Some of the notable documentaries include:
- Prime Minister, which explores the life and career of Jacinda Ardern
- 2000 meters to Andriivka, a Ukrainian War Chronicle directed by Mstysslav Chernov, who won the director for Directing Award: World Cinema Documentary at this year’s Sundance
- Nobody against Putin, winner of the World Cinema Documentary film Special Jury Award from Sundance
- Selena and Los Dinos, a documentary about the Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla, winner of the US documentary Special Jury Award from Sundance for Archive Stories
Narrative Films
In addition to the documentaries, the festival also features seven narrative films, including:
- DJ Ahmet, winner of the audience award from Sundance: World Cinema Dramatic and World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Visions
- Twoless, which won the US Festival’s audience award: US Dramatic and US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Schauspiel
Festival Details
The Sundance Film Festival: CDMX will run from May 29 to June 1st at several CinePolis locations in Mexico City. The festival will feature 15 films and a program of shorts selected from titles that were shown in Sundance in the United States in January. This is the second year of the festival, which was launched by Sundance and the Latin American exhibition giant Cinepolis.
