Inside Out’s International Finance Forum

The Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival and Content Promoter has announced the five feature film projects selected for the ninth annual International Finance Forum (IFF). This event brings together queer storytellers and decision-makers from around the world to discuss and promote LGBTQ+ content.

What is the International Finance Forum?

The IFF will take place on May 29th and 30th at the TIFF Lightbox event location in Toronto. This year’s projects are in late development and packaging, offering a unique opportunity for creators to connect with industry professionals.

Featured Film Projects

The selected projects showcase a diverse range of stories and talents from around the world. These include:

  • A Separate World: A western romance from the USA, directed by Niki Ang and produced by Andrew Ahn and Laura Scarano. The film follows a young woman fighting to save her family’s ranch, who falls in love with the rebellious daughter of a neighboring ranch family.
  • Don’t Let Him In: A Canadian comedy-drama starring and produced by Tatiana Maslany, alongside Andria Wilson Mirza, and written and directed by Ben Lewis. The story revolves around a woman whose life begins to unravel when her estranged brother starts spending time with her best friend.
  • Here for the Right Reasons: A US comedy directed by Susie Yankou and produced by Allison Tate. The film follows a bisexual woman who tries to win a reality TV show by pretending to be her femme twin sister.
  • The Boy and the Dope: A feature directing debut from the UK, written and directed by Nosa Eke and produced by Nell Whitley. The project follows a male-presenting teenager on a daring search for a legendary sneaker.
  • When the River Opens: A romantic drama from the USA/China, written and directed by Jess X Snow and produced by Peter van Staden. The film tells the story of a rebellious non-binary Chinese-American who embarks on a surreal journey through rural China.

Industry Opportunities

Participants in the IFF will have the chance to take part in in-person and virtual meetings with representatives from companies such as A24, Bleecker Street, Neon, Netflix, CBC Films, Elevation, MK2, MR Smith, Parallax Films, and Protagonist.

Quote from the IFF Producer

Jan Nathanson, IFF producer, commented: "At a disruptive time for the film industry, we are thrilled to create a space where amazing queer creators and their stories can shine. In our ninth iteration, Inside Out’s IFF is bringing together creative teams with over 20 industry professionals who are actively looking for queer content."
