Exclusive Film Deal
Magnify has acquired international rights to Pete Ohs’ latest film, "The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Check Mark", a genre-bending thriller that premiered at SXSW. The film stars Zoë Chao, whose credits include "Bubble & Squeak", as a young woman whose idyllic rural escape turns into a nightmare after a tick bite triggers a series of unsettling transformations.
Cast and Crew
The film boasts a talented cast, including Callie Hernandez ("Jethica", "La La Land"), Jeremy O. Harris ("The Sweet East"), and James Cusati-Moyer ("Maestro"). The script was written by Oh, Hernandez, Harris, Chao, and Cusati-Moyer, with Ohs, Hernandez, Harris, and Josh Godfrey ("Caddo Lake") serving as producers. CAA Media represents the US rights.
Sales and Distribution
Austin Kennedy, sales director at Magnify, praised the film, calling it "an unexpected genre-bending jewel that surprises at every turn". Kennedy expressed enthusiasm for working with Ohs, describing him as "one of the most exciting and exploratory voices in the next generation of filmmakers". Magnify will commence international sales at Cannes, with Kennedy and the company’s Manager of Global Sales, lying down, leading the charge.

Ohs’ previous works include the horror satire "Jethica", which premiered at SXSW, and the absurd comedy "Love and Work", which premiered at Slamdance in 2024. He is currently in post-production on "Eruption", a secret project starring Charli XCX. Ohs’ films are known for their unique blend of genres and exploration of unconventional themes.
