Introduction to Molina
Disney has set a new project in motion, based on the New York Times Bestseller autobiographical book "Molina: The Story of the Father Who Raised an Unlikely Baseball Dynasty" by Bengie Molina. This project tells the story of the Molina brothers, who made history in the world of professional baseball.
The Story Behind Molina
The book, written by Bengie Molina, follows the life and upbringing of Bengie, Jose, and Yadier Molina – the only three brothers who all made it to the top ranks of professional baseball at the same time. What’s even more incredible is that all three brothers from Puerto Rico became catchers and won World Series rings. The story is a testament to the power of family, perseverance, and dedication.
The Team Behind the Project
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jose Rivera, who also hails from Puerto Rico, is writing the script for the project. Rivera is known for his work on "Motorcycle Diaries" and "100 Years of Solitude". The project is being produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Luis Miranda Jr., along with Jonathan Eirich and Diana Nabatoff. Nick Reynolds from Rideback is serving as an executive producer.
The Producers’ Background
Lin-Manuel Miranda has had a successful run with Disney, with two original song Oscar nominations for "Dos Oruguitas" from "Encanto" and "How Far I’ll Go" from "Moana". He recently wrote the songs for the studio’s profitable "Mufasa", which has grossed over $722 million globally. Miranda’s filmed live stage version of his multi-Tony-winning "Hamilton" was also acquired by Disney and became a huge success.
The Future of the Project
Rivera will be repped by UTA, Code Entertainment, and Skrzyniarz & Mallean. Miranda is repped by WME, Liebman Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham. With a talented team behind it, the project is expected to be a hit. Rideback’s "Lilo & Stitch" is set to open on May 23 and is expected to gross over $120 million on the four-day Memorial Day weekend.
