The 2025 MET GALA dress code, "Gathered for you", was inspired by the Costume Institute’s exhibition, "Superfine: The Adaptation of Black Style". This exhibition focuses on the research of political and aesthetic constructs of black dandyism, emphasizing men’s clothing and tailoring.

Delving Deeper into the Theme

The theme takes its roots from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity". Many participants chose to pay homage to the topic by going beyond the surface level. They achieved this by working with black creatives, stylists, and costume designers to help them create their looks, thus diving deeper into the essence of the theme and its foundational material.
