New Comedy Film to Tell the Story of Britain’s Biggest Bank Robbery
The upcoming comedy film, Millions Hunt, will be led by Christopher Eccleston and Madeleine Madden, with Levelk acquiring world sales rights. The film is set to start production on June 2 in Dublin and Dundalk, Ireland, and will be based on the greatest bank robbery in British and Irish history, which took place in Belfast in December 2004.
The Storyline
The film follows the story of Diana, an Australian police detective, who is visiting her family when she becomes involved in the investigation of the Nordbank robbery. She teams up with Crayford, an experienced Northern Irish detective, and together they navigate old tensions, difficult-to-catch suspects, and bizarre twists. As they work together, Diana develops a plan that could make the stolen millions worthless.
Production and Financing
The film is written by Stephen Burke and Katherine Thomson, with Jane Doolan producing for Ireland’s Mammoth Films and Michael Wrenn co-producing for Invisible Republic. The film has received production financing from Screen Ireland and Screen Australia, with support from RTE, Levelk, Screen Queensland, Invest Gold Coast, Mind the Gap, Elysium Studio, Carnival Studio, and MDW Law.
Cast and Crew
Madeleine Madden, known for her roles in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and The Wheel of Time, will play the lead role of Diana. Christopher Eccleston, known for his roles in Doctor Who and The Leftovers, will play the role of Crayford. The film’s director, Stephen Burke, has said that the film marks his first exploration of the post-conflict Northern Ireland through a comedic lens.
Reception and Distribution
The film’s producers are excited about the project, with Jane Doolan saying that Millions Hunt strikes a rare balance between gripping entertainment and thoughtful reflection. Louise Gough, Director of Narrative Content at Screen Australia, has said that the film is a gripping, character-driven crime drama that not only entertains but also speaks to the enduring complexity of justice and trust. The film will be distributed by Eclipse Films in Ireland and Bonsai Films in Australia.
Upcoming Slate
Levelk’s upcoming slate includes Anke Blonde’s tension drama Dust, animation Checkered Ninja 3, and Stephen Bradley’s comedy Fran the Man. With a talented cast and crew, Millions Hunt is set to be a unique and lively take on the heist genre, with a strong potential to connect with a global audience.
