André 3000 has released a collection of piano instrumental tracks entitled "7 Piano Sketches". This project was published shortly before he appeared on the carpet at the Met Gala with a full piano strapped to his back.
Background of the Project
"7 Piano Sketches" was partially composed and recorded before his 2023 instrumental flute album "New Blue Sun", which received a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards. André designed the project almost a decade ago when he was living with his son in a house in Texas that only had a piano, beds, and television screens. The project can be streamed here.

With the publication of "7 Piano Sketches", André stated: "Warning: no bars." In a statement accompanying the project, André said: "The original title for it was ‘the best worst rap album in history’."

In an interview with Diversity shortly after his Grammy nominations for "New Blue Sun", André explained that he was pursuing his instincts to put together the album. "I am used to people feeling a certain way, but at the same time, it is just proof for me that I can only do what I am," he said. "I think that’s why I’m here. I get up to expand myself. I have to be fun and be true to what I do. That’s it."
