Upcoming Thriller Film
XYZ films will start selling in Cannes via the serial miller thriller The Edge of Normal, starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Rupert Friend, and directed by Carlota Pereda, the celebrated Spanish director of Piggy, who makes her English-language debut.
Production Details
Production is scheduled to begin on May 27 in Utah. In the previously announced project, Moretz will play Reeve Leclaire, a character who is haunted by memories of teenage captivity and fears that she is returning to her nightmare when asked to look after a survivor, leading to a cat-and-mouse game.
Script and Production Team
Matt Venne wrote the script with revisions by Lori Evans Taylor, who wrote the horror publication of New Line on May 16 Final Goal: Blood Lines, based on Carla Norton’s book of the same name. XYZ films will produce and finance The Edge of Normal, with producing partners including The Curse, as well as Andrew Deane and Ava Jamshidi for Industry Entertainment. CAA Media Finance and XYZ films will jointly represent the US rights.
Director’s Background
Pereda broke out in the horror genre with her Sundance 2022 film Piggy, based on her 2018 short film of the same name, which made the festival rounds and won the Goya for Best Short Film in 2019, as well as the Slamdance Agbo Fellowship Award in 2020.
Cast’s Background
Moretz’s credits include Kick-Ass, Carrie, and Let Me In, as well as the upcoming comedy by Amazon MGM Studios Oh. What. Fun. with Felicity Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Danielle Brooks. Friend has played in the Berlinale selection of Michel Franco’s Dreams, Hitman: Agent 47, The Young Victoria, and TV hit Homeland, and will soon be seen in Wes Anderson’s Cannes competition selection The French Dispatch for Focus Features.
