Big Loud Sells Minority Stake to Chord Music Partners
Big Loud, the Nashville-based record label that is home to country superstar Morgan Wallen, has sold a minority stake in its catalog to Chord Music Partners. According to sources, the deal was worth $200 million.
About the Deal
A representative from Big Loud confirmed the sale, stating that the company had sold a minority stake in its master recording catalog to Chord Music Partners. The representative did not disclose any financial details or conditions of the transaction. However, they did say that the deal was part of a strategic investment to expand the label’s global footprint and support the long-term development of its artists.
Details of the Transaction
The deal was completed with the support of Big Loud’s internal team, as well as partners at Chord Music, Republic Records, Universal Music Group (UMG), and several law firms. Chord Music Partners was founded in 2021 by investment companies KKR and Dundee Partners, and its portfolio includes music by notable artists such as The Weeknd, Ryan Tedder, and John Legend. Last year, UMG acquired a 25.8% stake in Chord Music Partners, with KKR retaining the remaining ownership.
Big Loud’s Catalog and Artists
Big Loud has become one of the leading record labels in Nashville since its founding in 2013. The label’s roster includes top artists such as Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Ernest, and Miranda Lambert. Big Loud’s catalog features some of Wallen’s most successful albums, including the six-time platinum "Dangerous: The Double Album" and the seven-time platinum "One Thing at a Time". The catalog also includes hit singles like "Last Night" and "Whiskey Glasses", as well as music from other notable artists such as Hardy and Ernest.
Impact of the Deal
The deal is expected to generate significant revenue for Big Loud over the next five to ten years, thanks to Wallen’s consistent popularity and success. The investment will also allow Big Loud to invest in new talent and expand its operations, while maintaining its existing relationships with UMG and Republic Records. According to an insider, the deal will further strengthen Big Loud’s position within the UMG system, allowing the label to continue operating independently while benefiting from the additional resources and support.
Upcoming Tours and Releases
Morgan Wallen is set to embark on his "One Thing at a Time" stadium tour on June 20 in Houston. The tour is expected to be a major success, with Wallen’s popularity at an all-time high. The deal with Chord Music Partners is seen as a strategic move to support Big Loud’s continued growth and success, both in the short term and in the years to come.
