Preparation is Key

Clothing

Those who go to the mountains for a walk would do well to bring layers of clothing and rain equipment. The sun can shine below, but the higher you go, the colder it becomes. You can also check the weather forecast in advance.

Good Shoes

If you’re planning to take a walk in the mountains, choose good mountain hiking shoes and leave the sneakers at home. Hiking shoes offer the necessary protection against bumps, support your feet and ankles, and provide sufficient grip on steep rocks.

A Hiking Map

A hiking map is essential during a mountain walk, even if the route is signposted. The map offers information about the terrain and heights, and helps you get an insight into the course and feasibility of a route that you can plan in advance.

Backpack or Bag

Bring a backpack or bag with the following essentials: enough food and drink, a first-aid set, your phone, and a power bank. Save the numbers of local emergency services.

While Walking

Choose a route that suits you and isn’t too heavy. Select a route that you’re comfortable with, so you have enough energy if something happens. On the way, you can encounter animals, especially if you’re looking up at nature. Remember not to touch or stroke them, no matter how cute they may look.

Still and Enjoy

The most important advice is to "still and enjoy." The mountains are a beautiful landscape to walk in and enjoy. Take regular short breaks to appreciate the scenery, which is good for both your mind and body.
