Introduction to Grand Theft Auto 6
Grand Theft Auto fans have to wait another year to get the latest version of the popular video game into their hands. The publication of Grand Theft Auto 6, the latest edition of the series, is pushed back to May 26, 2026, Rockstar Games said in a statement on Friday. The game was initially expected to be released later this year.
Reason for the Delay
"We are very sorry that this is later than expected," said Rockstar Games. "With every game we published, the goal was always to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception," added the company. "We hope you understand that we need this additional time to provide the quality level that you expect and deserve."
History of Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto, generally referred to as GTA in the Gaming community, has sold millions of copies worldwide. But the fans have been waiting for a new title for more than a decade. The latest version game, GTA 5, was published in 2013 and sold over 200 million copies.
Expected Sales and Revenue
Analysts have predicted that GTA 6 could be the most lucrative start of the entertainment industry of all time, even though the delayed start could dampen the income at short notice. Analysts from Wedbush Securities said that they would expect sales of $6.35 billion for the 2026 financial year compared to earlier estimates of 8 billion US dollars. However, they say that the delay has no influence on GTA 6’s lifetime sales.
Game Features
The game is expected to be forecast with $80 or higher or in the same baseball stadium as the latest Nintendo and Xbox products as part of the same base rank. If there will be the shelves next year, fans will meet their meetings with the first female protagonist, Lucia, who is detained at the beginning of the game and later appears with a male partner, as can be seen in the 2023 trailer which has accumulated millions of views.
Support from Take-Two Interactive
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, which Rockstar Games belongs to, defended the change to the publication of GTA 6. "We support completely Rockstar games that take additional time to realize your creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster experience experience that exceeds the expectations of the audience."
