Changing Menu to Serve Weight Loss Customers
A high-profile celebrity chef in Los Angeles is changing the menu at his critically acclaimed restaurants to better serve customers who are losing weight at a record pace using weight loss injections. The chef says he significantly reduces consumption of high-carb foods, like fried foods, and also says his clients have also reduced their alcohol consumption.
Reduced Consumption of High-Carb Foods
The creative chef said he freaked out when he saw plates of hand-cut French fries, his most popular option, come back to the kitchen. "At first I yelled at the kitchen: ‘Did you change the recipe? What’s wrong with that? But it’s really just that people are eating fewer fries,’" he said. "So now we can reduce our portion sizes and no one will really be upset about that,"
Impact on Bar Stock
The chef also revealed that the weight loss drug has changed the way he stocks his bar. He says he decided to bring in lots of tequila because it has no carbohydrates. His customers simply don’t buy beer and wine like they used to, which leads to him not buying as much product.
The Ozempic Trend
The chef attributes the dramatic weight loss in large part to the Ozempic trend that took Hollywood by storm. Big stars and even athletes have become noticeably thinner and in some cases don’t even look like themselves anymore. Some celebrities have become supporters of GLP-1, saying that sometimes people need help with weight loss and it’s okay to make the decision to use it.
Potential Impact on Restaurant Profits
However, the trend could hurt restaurant owners’ profits. Empty carbs like french fries and alcohol are where restaurants make their biggest profits. “So you have to be really creative with the proteins to make sure you can make gains with the proteins,” he said.
