Cracker Barrel Brings Back Classic Menu Items
Cracker Barrel is now bringing back two classic menu items, Hamburger Steak and Eggs in the Basket, by popular demand. The Tennessee-based restaurant chain announced the return of these comfort food staples, which are part of the "Old Country Store" experience.
The Return of Timeless Favorites
The Hamburger Steak and Eggs in the Basket are described as "timeless favorites" that are "firmly established" on the menu. According to Thomas Yun, vice president of menu strategy and innovation at Cracker Barrel, "Winter demands comfort and connection, and nothing delivers that better than the classics." Bringing back these dishes was an easy decision, as they are not only classics but also some of the guests’ most requested dishes.
Classic Menu Items
The Hamburger Steak has been on Cracker Barrel’s menu since the restaurant opened in 1969. It is described as "succulent, seasoned beef with a zesty butter-garlic sauce and served with two or three classic sides." Eggs in the Basket is a "nostalgic breakfast favorite" featuring two slices of golden-grilled sourdough bread with an egg in the center, served with bacon or sausage and a classic side dish.
Meals for Two Offer
Both dishes are part of Cracker Barrel’s Meals for Two offer, available all day Monday through Friday for $19.99. These dishes are unique to Cracker Barrel, rooted in tradition, and beloved for generations. The company is excited to bring back classics that guests know and love, prepared the way they remember.
A Return to Southern Roots
The return of classic dishes suggests that Cracker Barrel is returning to its Southern roots. Atlanta-based cookbook author Kelli Ferrell said that Cracker Barrel is known for Southern comfort and should stick with its staples. The hamburger steak brought back childhood memories for Ferrell, who said that "everything hamburger is a trial."
Fan Reaction
The return of Eggs in the Basket has caused a stir among long-time fans. Rachel Love, a self-proclaimed Cracker Barrel enthusiast from Tennessee, said the announcement immediately reminded her how much she missed the dish. She recalled visiting a location near Nashville with her best friend when they were informed that production had been halted and said they were "distraught." Love called Eggs in the Basket a "Southern staple" that deserves a comeback.
