Fort Lauderdale’s Culinary Scene

It’s a big year for the culinary scene in Fort Lauderdale. For the first time, the Michelin guide has expanded its reach to the city, recognizing several of its restaurants for their culinary excellence and awarding a star at the Four Seasons Hotel. In response, local restaurants are increasing their offerings. Whether you’re craving local fish, a meaty meal, or a Mediterranean feast, there’s something fresh to try at Fort Lauderdale’s best new dining rooms.

New Restaurants to Try

Several new restaurants have opened in Fort Lauderdale, offering a range of cuisines and dining experiences. These include:

Sunshine Supper Club

Located at 2465 E Sunrise Blvd, Sunshine Supper Club has become one of the city’s most popular spots. Appetizers include wild mushroom flatbread, jumbo lump crab cakes, and wood-fired mussels. The menu also features a range of steaks, chops, and fish, as well as modern comfort dishes like fried chicken and cabernet-braised ribs. Desserts are also a highlight, with options like a S’mores Galore brownie with jumbo marshmallows roasted tableside over an open fire.

Daniel’s, a Steakhouse in Florida

At 620 South Federal Street, Daniel’s, a Steakhouse in Florida, boasts classic booths and walnut wood. The menu features a range of prime steaks, including a 16-ounce strip of grass-fed Florida Providence Cattle NY, as well as seafood options like hog snapper from the Keys. Luxuries like beef tartare and Kaluga caviar blend, black truffle fried chicken, and key lime pie are also on offer.

Ocean Prime

Located at 171 Las Olas Circle, Ocean Prime is a chic, two-story outpost with stunning views of the Intracoastal. The menu features a range of seafood options, including a Smoked Shellfish Tower, as well as prime steaks like a 22 oz. Bone-in rib eye. The restaurant also offers a range of desserts, including a 10 carrot pie.

Jay’s Steakhouse

Housed in a restored 1920s church at 441 NE 3rd Ave, Jay’s Steakhouse places more emphasis on showmanship than local sourcing. Appetizers include lamb chop lollipops, roasted bone marrow with chimichurri, and Maine lobster oreganata. Prime rib is delivered directly to the table on a trolley, and the menu also features charred tiger shrimp, 44-ounce shrimp, and caviar presentations like Petrossian Tsar Imperial.

Ukiah

At 221 SW 1st Ave, Ukiah is a Japanese smokehouse that lights fiery meat dishes like baby back ribs. The restaurant features four separate dining areas, including a room with large windows overlooking the water and a covered terrace overlooking the river. The menu includes pastrami short ribs, 12-hour brisket, chicken, and fire-roasted kimchi and yuzu pickles, as well as Japanese street food like beech mushroom tempura and Fuji apple glazed pork belly.

Sakana Nikkei

Located at 400 SW 1st Ave, Sakana Nikkei is a Nikkei-style restaurant that combines Japanese and Peruvian flavors. The menu features a range of salads, including seaweed and quinoa, as well as seafood towers that combine sashimi, nigiri, and ceviche. Hot izakaya dishes include flambéed jumbo scallops and fried pork and shrimp dumplings, while lobster and American Wagyu are among the rolls.

Calusso

Part of the new Pier Sixty-Six at 2301 SE 17th St, Calusso is an elegant French-Italian room with breathtaking views of the pool and marina. The menu features presentations and tableside offerings like truffle fritillary with blue crab and sweet corn, foie gras with quince and pistachio, and roasted delicata squash with creamy chestnut. Surf-and-turf options include scallop in a turmeric emulsion and bistecca for two.

Ibis Sky Lounge

Located at the Omni Hotel at 1850 SE 17th St, the Ibis Sky Lounge caters to a discerning crowd, serving tapas fare to guests 21 and up against a backdrop of Intracoastal and city lights. Highlights include scallops with pepper sofrito and caviar croquettes.

Mykonos

At 305 S Andrews Ave, Mykonos is a Mediterranean estiatorio with outdoor daybeds and indoor seating areas. The menu features classic Hellenic dishes like grilled octopus and Branzino, as well as more creative options like peach stracciatella salad with roasted pistachios and Turkish meat dumplings with yogurt and tomato reduction.

Slate

The culinary adventure begins before departure at Slate, a private airline that sells individual seats and serves treats from Daniel Boulud’s Épicerie Boulud and Palm Beach food mecca Buccan on flights from New York.
