The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is set to expand its TIFF Primetime series slate from 10 to approximately 14 shows for the 2026 edition, which will take place from September 10-20, 2026. This move represents a significant increase of approximately 40% over the range introduced in 2015.

The expansion coincides with the launch of TIFF: The Market, TIFF’s official content market targeting film, television, new media, and Canadian creators. This market will be held from September 10-16, 2026. The news was confirmed at the Mipcom television market in Cannes by Judy Lung, vice president of strategy, communications, and stakeholder relations at TIFF.

Details of TIFF: The Market

TIFF executives have stated that the content market will be housed at a main location in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. They expect 6,000 delegates in the first year and aim to double the number of participants by 2030. This move is expected to provide a significant boost to the Canadian film and television industry.

Previous TIFF Primetime Selection

This year’s TIFF Primetime selection included the Netflix crime drama "Black Rabbit" with Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers, as well as the Netflix original Canadian thriller "Stubborn" about a teen treatment facility from Mae Martin and Ryan Scott, starring Martin, Sarah Gadon, and Toni Collette. The expansion of the TIFF Primetime series slate is expected to bring even more exciting and diverse content to the festival.
