Box Office Update

The latest installment in the Tron saga, Tron: Ares, has debuted with a worldwide total of $60.5 million, including $27 million from the international box office. This is below forecasts heading into the weekend. Despite this, the film’s critical and audience reviews are better than the previous Tron film in some areas, such as France.

International Performance

The film performed well in Latin America, with number one openings across the region. It also topped the box office in Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Hong Kong. However, in some markets like Germany and Korea, local titles dominated. The film’s reception in premium format (PLF) theaters was strong, and it will continue to play in Imax theaters for two weeks with no competitive releases on the horizon.

Upcoming Releases

China is set to release Tron: Ares on October 17th. This weekend’s top-performing markets for the film were Mexico ($2.9 million), the United Kingdom ($2.4 million), France ($1.9 million), Australia ($1.5 million), and Germany ($1.4 million).

Other Box Office Performers

Warner Bros.’ One Fight More continues to show strong legs, losing only 32% of its audience and earning $15 million in 77 markets. The film’s offshore total now stands at $83.5 million, with a global total of $138 million. Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie added $7.2 million from 11 new markets, making its offshore total $19.5 million and global total $46 million.

Milestones and Records

New Line/Warner Bros.’ The Incantation: Last Rites has crossed the $300 million mark offshore, with a global total of $473 million. Japan is the final market to release the film, scheduled for next week on October 17th. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has become the fifth-largest global grosser of the year, with $648 million. The film’s North America total has reached $128.6 million, surpassing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as the most successful international film of all time in the domestic market. The film earned $3.5 million from 62 overseas markets, making its international total $336 million.
