Introduction to the Jersey Opera House
The Jersey Opera House is set to reopen with a full program of performances, marking the first regular live events in over four years. The theater, which is the best-known on the island, underwent a £12.7 million renovation funded by the government to celebrate its 125th anniversary after a long closure at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
Renovation and Upgrades
The audience got a sneak peek of the renovation, which includes a refreshed interior with a new color scheme and seats, during two special concerts in April to mark Liberation Day. Other upgrades include a new heating system, a plant room, two dance studios, and an extended hospitality room, while the vintage chandeliers remain. The charity behind the event location says that it still brings in funds to improve the stage lighting and sound.
Reopening and Upcoming Performances
The reopening begins with Encore! Welcome Home, a three-part gala performance featuring a cast of local talents, some of whom have also performed on the West End stage. The program for autumn and winter offers something for everyone, including sold-out performances by Gilbert O’Sullivan and Jasper Carrott & Rory Bremner. MP Kirsten Morel, Minister of Sustainable Economic Development, said: "It is really exciting to see the opera house reopening for a new performance season as the heart of the island’s cultural life."
The Future of the Jersey Opera House
The Chair of the Jersey Opera House, Laura Robertson, added: "We are pleased that islanders are eager to return to the newly renovated opera house, and we look forward to welcoming them to our doors." The Board of Jersey Opera House Limited said that its mission is to "deliver outstanding live performances that are supported by the community’s education and commitment" and to create a resilient, ambitious organization that brings creativity in harmony with commercial strength.

Tickets for the opening shows are available via the Opera House website. The community is excited to see the renovated theater come back to life, and with a full program of performances, it’s sure to be a hit with locals and visitors alike.
