Concerns and Fears

A 49-year-old married woman wrote about her concerns regarding her husband’s behavior. He has been making jokes about her in public, warning people that she is "mean" and "violent" when she gestures with her hands while speaking. He also accused her of being a shoplifter in front of a cashier. When she confronted him about his behavior, he dismissed her feelings, saying she was "too sensitive" and needed to "get over it."

Dealing with Embarrassing Behavior

The advice given to the woman was to stand up for herself and not let her husband’s behavior embarrass her. The next time it happens, she should smile and quietly tell the person being warned that her husband is out of his medication and having delusions. It was also suggested that the couple seek the help of a marriage and family therapist to address the underlying issues.

Fear of Death and Loss

Another woman, 57, wrote about her fear of death and loss after having a major surgery. Although she was diagnosed cancer-free, she couldn’t stop thinking about death, not only her own but also the death of her loved ones, including her husband, dogs, and cats. She was struggling with her belief in God and felt unhappy, crying every day, and experiencing physical pain and fear.

Coping with Mortality

The advice given to the woman was to appreciate the gift of life and make the most of every good day. It was suggested that she discuss her emotional state with her doctors and seek the help of a licensed psychiatric specialist to overcome her destructive thoughts. By regaining her balance and seeking help, she could learn to live a happy and normal life despite her fears.

A Time for Reflection

As Yom Kippur, the day of reconciliation, approaches, it is a reminder to reflect on our actions and seek forgiveness for any wrongdoings. During this 24-hour period, people fast, reflect, and pray, seeking to make amends for any sins committed in the previous year. It is a time for self-reflection and seeking a fresh start.
