Introduction to Youth Guarantee

Rachel Reeves will emphasize the need for "hard work with a fair reward" if she reveals plans for a "youth guarantee" to reduce unemployment. The Chancellor is founded for a society that was founded on "contribution" in her speech at the annual conference in Liverpool today.

Plans for Youth Guarantee

It is expected to confirm plans for every young person who has received Universal Credit (UC) for 18 months without "earning or learning" to guarantee an offer of paid work. Those who refuse to take up jobs without "adequate apology" are faced with sanctions, e.g. lose their advantages. The guarantee that is supervised by work and pension secretary is part of a promise of "nothing less than the abolition of long-term young people unemployment".

Belief in Contribution

Mrs. Reeves is expected to say: "I believe in a Great Britain founded on contribution – where we fulfill our duty for each other and where hard work corresponds to a fair reward. I believe in a Great Britain that is based on occasion – where ordinary children can thrive, freely due to their background. And I believe that Britain’s true wealth can be found not only in the success of the few happy, but also in the talents of all of our people in every part of our large country."

Commitment to Abolish Long-Term Youth Unemployment

Ms. Reeves is expected to add: "We will not have a generation of young people sized without a prospects – refuses, the dignity, the security and leaders of the possibilities that offer good work. Just as the last Labor government with its new deal for young people has abolished long-term youth unemployment, I can commit this government for nothing less than the abolition of long-term youth unemployment. We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again."

Criticism from Shadow Chancellor

Sir Mel Stride, accused the work of "contradictions" within her policy. He said: "Rachel Reeves says she wanted to abolish youth unemployment – but in her first budget she ceased a job tax of 25 billion GBP that made it more expensive for companies, especially young people. This is the contradiction in the heart of Labor’s plan: you talk about opportunities, but your guidelines kill jobs. Since Labor has come to power, unemployment has expired. The business trust has dropped. And now Reeves is trying to fix a problem that has created it – while she does the finger of guilt on everyone else as often."
